Sioux Lookout, ON – With Ontario moving to Step Three of the Roadmap to Reopen on Friday, residents of Sioux Lookout can expect several important changes to their municipal services.

Sioux Lookout, ON – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has placed most of Northwestern Ontario under a Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) effective 12:01 a.m. today. This extends from the US border in the south, the Manitoba border to the west, and includes the entire Sioux Lookout district.

Please be advised that Eighth Avenue will be under construction from Front Street through to Prince Street until the end of September 2021.
During this time, crews will be working to complete stormwater upgrades and street reconstruction. Various traffic control plans will be implemented, including road and intersection closures and detours. These will change throughout the construction zone, as construction progresses.

Sioux Lookout, ON – A violent storm system caused significant damage throughout the Municipality on Wednesday, June 23rd. This resulted in Mayor Doug Lawrance declaring a State of Emergency on Thursday morning.
In the days since, damage has been assessed, insurance companies have been contacted, and dedicated workers and volunteers have been busy finding accommodations for those displaced from the Sunset Suites.

Sioux Lookout, ON – A summer storm system swept through Sioux Lookout last night, with strong winds causing significant damage. Trees and power lines were downed. There was damage to homes, outbuildings, fences, vehicles, and property. This includes significant damage to the roof of one of our local hotels, as well as damages to Municipal facilities.

The Legion section of Northway Cemetery has been cordoned off temporarily, due to health and safety concerns. The annual raking of pine needles from the area has not taken place yet, due to the redeployment of staff to cover a shortage in grass cutters.
As soon as this piece of annual maintenance is complete, the Legion section of Northway Cemetery will be reopened.
The rest of the Northway Cemetery remains open to the public.
