Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a $10.00 fee for a truck load of household garbage?
No. You will be charged based on the weight and type of garbage to be disposed of.  There is a minimum 50kg charge.
Are tagged garbage bags accepted for disposal?

No. Garbage bag tags are reserved for curbside pickup. Tagged bags of garbage are not accepted at the landfill.  You will be charged by weight (50kg minimum) for all bags of garbage brought to the landfill.

Do you take dead animals?
No.
Do you take oil tanks?

Yes. But they must be cut in half and steamed out. The metal hauler will not remove them if they are not cut in half or if they contain any oil residue.  Metal drums also fall into this category.

Do you take hazardous waste?

Some municipal hazardous wastes (MHSW) including paint/stains, oils/gasoline, and batteries are accepted at the Hidden Lake Landfill Facility. They are stored in a steel household hazardous waste storage facility until they can be properly disposed of at a Hazardous Waste Disposal Facility.  The MSHW is removed from the site for disposal in accordance with Ontario Regulation 347:

  • When the hazardous waste building has reached capacity, or
  • At least once every 2 years;

whichever occurs first.

Do you take soil with fuel oil in it?
Yes. IF the soil has been tested and passes O.Reg 558-TCLP. Please contact our Public Works Manager at 737-1234 for more information.
Do you take recycling at the landfill site?
No. The Municipality offers its residential bi-weekly curbside recycling pick-up instead.
