Arson Forces Closure of Bathroom Facilities at Town Beach

Sioux Lookout, ON – An act of arson caused significant damage to the bathroom facilities at Town Beach last night. As a result, the Municipality of Sioux Lookout will have them closed to the public until further notice.

“We need time to examine the extent of the damage, assess what is required to remediate the damage, and determine what, if any, steps can be taken to minimize the risk of this type of event in the future,” explained CAO/Clerk, Brian MacKinnon. “Thanks to exceptional response times from Sioux Lookout Fire Services, damages were minimized, but this will still be costly and time-consuming to repair.”

Staff are currently taking steps to assess the full extent of the damage to the building, determine repair costs, and deal with our insurance company as a result of the incident.

Ontario Provincial Police responded quickly to the 9-1-1 call reporting the fire and are currently investigating. There is no information about possible suspects or if charges will be laid at this time.
