Sioux Lookout, ON – The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is pleased to have been named one of the 2022 recipients of the Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) Grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General. The cameras will be installed in key locations in the Municipality’s downtown core. While the footage from the cameras will assist the local OPP in addressing occurrences, the actual video equipment and surveillance will be housed and managed by the Municipality.
“This $48,000 in funding, which will be matched by the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, will result in a $96,000 investment in CCTV safety surveillance for our community,” said Michelle Larose, Chief Administrative Officer.
“The Municipality is grateful to the Government of Ontario and the Ministry of the Solicitor General for making this important investment in our community,” said Mayor Doug Lawrance, adding, “these new tools will assist our OPP detachment in helping to solve crime and make our community an even safer place to live.”
“The Municipality will maintain the system and will respond to requests for specific footage from the OPP, based on the principles and practices set-out in the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act,” explained CAO Larose.
