The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Regular Council Meeting held January 19, 2022:

  • Ms. Barbara Lockhart, Dr. Terri Farrell, Dr. Laurel Laakso, Ms. April Derouin, Ms. Laurie Breton, and Ms. Linda McNaughton made a presentation on behalf of the Sioux Lookout Regional Physician Services Inc. (SLRPSI) on Physician Resources – 2022 and Beyond. SLRPSI is looking to reinstate the Recruitment and Retention Committee to assist with physician shortages, and is asking for a member from the Municipality to sit on the committee and possibly chair a sub-committee or working group. A Council Report will come forward to the next Council Meeting to determine next steps.
  • Council passed By-law No. 04-22, to Authorize and Direct the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute a Contribution Agreement between the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and The Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor), in support of the Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord Economic Development Corporation.
  • Council received the Recommendation report respecting Official Plan Amendment No. OP05-2021 and Zoning Amendment No. Z10-2021 (M & M Sewage Disposal Ltd) and passed By-law No. 05-22, to authorize the adoption of Official Plan Amendment No. 5 and passed By-law No. 06-22, to Amend Zoning By-law No. 85-18, thereby approving the Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment Applications.
  • Council directed staff to create an Ad Hoc committee of Council for the purpose of updating the Cedar Bay Development Plan through input from community organizations and the public.
  • Council directed staff not to submit a By-law for electors’ consent and placing a question on the Ballot, Pursuant to Sections 8, 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3 of the Municipal Elections Act.
  • Council approved amending Schedule A to By-law No. 92-18 (Being a By-law to Make Appointments to Various Boards, Commissions, and Committees) By adding Jennifer Hancharuk and Mary-Ellen Johnson to the Sioux Lookout Public Library Board.
