Council Brief - November 2023
The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Regular Council Meeting held November 15, 2023:
  • Mr. Peter Kirby and Mr. Doug Orchard from Compost Club in Kenora made a presentation to Council outlining why Sioux Lookout should complete a community composting feasibility study, implement a pilot project and move towards a community-wide compost project. Council directed staff to research funding opportunities and existing companies that may be interested in servicing the Municipality.
  • Mr. Scott Plant and Mr. Dillon Occleston presented the Standpipe Inspection Report to Council and discussed the cost of replacing the tank and the cost of repairing the tank. Council directed staff to investigate the options and to report back to Council at a subsequent Meeting.
  • Council endorsed Councilor Greg Swanson of The Municipality of Machin to serve as the Area 2 Representative on the Kenora District Home for the Aged Board of Directors for the 2022-2026 Term, ending on November 14, 2026.
  • Council directed staff to hold the December Regular Council Meeting on December 13, 2023.
  • Council reappointed Mario Rasetti, Roger Saltel, and Alanna Pizziol-Carroll as community members and reappointed Councilor Luc Beaulne and Councilor Joan Cosco as Council representatives on the Committee of Adjustment/Consent Granting Authority for the 2024 year. These reappointments are required annually under the Planning Act.
  • Council passed By-law No. 101-23, Being a By-law to Appoint Brian P. MacKinnon to the position of Chief Administrative Officer and Municipal Clerk for the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, effective January 1, 2024. Council rescinded By-law No. 45-16, Being a By-law to Appoint a Manager of Corporate Services/Municipal Clerk (Brian P. MacKinnon); and rescinded By-law No. 58-18, Being a By-law to Appoint Michelle Larose to the position of Chief Administrative Officer for the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, effective January 1, 2024.
