Sioux Lookout, ON – The Municipality of Sioux Lookout would like to clarify details about the recent addition of a $3 charge for receiving paper property tax and utilities bills.

The Municipality does NOT require payments to be made via online banking. Payments can still be made in person, at no additional cost, at the Municipal office by all of the usual methods, including cash and cheque. Online banking is an option, for those who prefer it, as are pre-authorised debits that can be arranged with the Finance Department.

You do not need to bring a paper copy of your bill to pay in person. Our staff can look up your account information when you visit the Municipal Office.

If you are unsure what your account balance is, you may also call our office at (807) 737-2700 to ask for it, at no cost.

It is free to sign up to receive your property tax or utilities bills by email.

“We are legally required to make sure everyone receives their bills,” explained CAO/Clerk, Brian MacKinnon. “But we aren’t required to send a paper bill by mail. If printing at home is an issue for those who prefer a paper copy but don’t wish to pay the $3.00 fee, the Sioux Lookout Public Library offers free public access to computers and the internet, and printing is available for 25 cents per page.”

The savings on postage and supplies, and revenues generated through fees, are applied to the Municipal operating budget to reduce future tax levies.
