Sioux Lookout, ON – The Province of Ontario has announced the safe and gradual lifting of public health measures, starting with a move to Step One of the Roadmap to Reopen at 12:01 a.m. this Friday, June 11, 2021.

This move brings many welcome changes, including:

  • outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people;
  • outdoor dining with up to 4 people per table;
  • outdoor fitness classes, personal training, and sports training for up to 10 people;
  • essential retail at 25% capacity, and able to sell all goods;
  • non-essential retail at 15% capacity;
  • retail stores in malls with street-facing entrances can re-open;
  • outdoor religious services, rites, and ceremonies with capacity limited to permit 2 meters of physical distancing between participants;
  • outdoor landmarks, historic sites, and botanical gardens open with capacity limts;
  • campsites, campgrounds, and short-term rentals are open; and
  • overnight camping permitted at Ontario Parks.

The province will remain in this step for at least 21 days, putting the start at Step Two no sooner than Friday, July 2nd. At that time, and in accordance with updated directives from the province, we will consider launching outdoor sports and leagues – including Sioux Lookout minor soccer, baseball, and volleyball. Our Recreation and Culture staff will be working over the coming weeks to prepare for league play, where sufficient interest has been shown. Any players, coaches, or volunteers interested in taking part should call the Front Desk of the Rec Centre at 737-1994 now to let them know you want to be involved.

The Sioux Lookout Public Library will also be allowed to reopen with capacity limits when we reach Step Two. Please follow their media releases for specific reopening details.

The restrictions that remain in effect mean that Municipal buildings will remain closed to the public until step two of Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopen takes effect. Our staff is still working behind closed doors, so essential Municipal services can continue without interruption. Phones are being monitored and we continue to return calls as soon as possible.

Currently, these Municipal facilities remain CLOSED to the public:

  • The Municipal Office
  • The Recreation Centre and Gymnasium – except for vaccination clinics
  • The Public Works Garage
  • The Fire Hall
  • The Airport Administration Building

These Municipal facilities are OPEN to the public:

  • The Airport Terminal Building
  • The Hidden Lake Landfill Site
  • The Biidaaban and Sioux Mountain Children’s Centres
  • Baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, bocce courts
  • Golf courses
  • Bike and skate parks

Please remember that physical distancing and sanitization requirements remain in place. Signs are posted in public areas.
