Proclamation: Rail Safety Week 2024

September 23^rd to 29^th, 2024

WHEREAS:            Rail Safety Week is to be held across Canada from September 23^rd to 29^th, 2024;

WHEREAS:            it is in the public’s interest to raise citizens’ awareness of the dangers of ignoring safety warnings at level crossings and trespassing on rail property to reduce avoidable deaths, injuries and damage caused by incidents involving trains and citizens;

WHEREAS:            Operation Lifesaver is a public/private partnership whose aim is to work with the public, rail industry, governments, police services, media and others to raise rail safety awareness;

WHEREAS:            CN has requested Municipal Council adopt this resolution in support of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness, save lives and prevent injuries in communities, including our municipality;

IT IS HERE BY RESOLVED:           to support national Rail Safety Week to be held from September 23 to 29, 2024;      

NOW THEREFORE:         I, Doug Lawrance, Mayor of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, do hereby proclaim September 23^rd  to 29^th as Rail Safety Week and encourage all residents to celebrate together in recognition of the hard work and dedication these men and women of CN bring to the community Sioux Lookout.
